Resumo: The strengthening of the trunk muscles (postural) helps to support and distribute the loads imposed during daily tasks, reducing stress and the incidence of discomforts or injuries. Among the various physical exercise programs that seek to strengthen the muscles of the trunk, functional training (TF) is one of the activities that aims to reduce physical inactivity, promoting the improvement of students to perform work activities, daily life, sports, through exercises that reduce problems related to skeletal muscle function. The present study intends to identify the effect of 3 months (36 sessions) of functional training (TF) on the isometric resistance of the trunk muscles. The sample consisted of 12 participants (women), aged 42,2 ± 9,8. The data on the characteristics and physical tests of the sample were submitted to a standard descriptive analysis (mean, standard deviation and BMI), and to verify the influence of the functional training on the isometric resistance of the pre and post test trunk muscles, was used the paired t-test (repeated measures). Statistical tests were performed on statistical software version 5.5 and the variables were tested with a significance level of p <0.05. The mean height of the 12 participants was 165 cm ± 10,8 cm, significant differences (p <0.05) were identified in the body mass after the 36 sessions of TF, (PRE, 83,8 kg ± 2,3 kg, POS, 78,1 kg ± 2,4 kg). The isometric endurance test of lateral trunk muscles revealed significant differences in time (p <0.05) between the PRÉ conditions (30 s ± 8 s) and the POS (42s ± 9,8 s) intervention, the isometric resistance test (p <0.05) between pre and post training conditions from 29 ± 12 seconds to 43 ± 8,5 seconds. The tests and isometric strength of the flexor muscles (TFT) and extensors (TET) of the trunk showed significant increases (p <0.05) in the isometric position time between the PRÉ conditions (TFT = 66 s ± 9,5 if TET = 50 s ± 7,6 s) and PÓS (TFT = 79 s ± 9,5 if TET = 72 s ± 9,8 s) training. The TF of 36 sessions was effective in increasing the isometric resistance of the trunk muscles.
