OBJECTIVE: Describe depressive symptoms, physical activity levels and quality of life (QoL) of people living with HIV and AIDS (PLHA) during the COVID-19 pandemic.METHODS: Cross-sectional study, carried out during the months of July and August 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, in the city of Recife with PLWHA. 34 PLWHA (age=43±12 years) were interviewed to verify the level of physical activity, depressive symptoms and QoL through the IPAQ, BECK and HAT-qol inventory, respectively, in addition to questions about sociodemographic data.RESULTS: Most participants were classified as physically active (67%) and had some degree of depression (52.9%). The presence of some degree of depression showed a negative association with education (p<0.01) and monthly income (p<0.05). The QoL domain Medication concerns obtained the highest score (79.1±25.4; n=32) and Financial concerns the lowest (35.1±30.3). There were significant negative correlations between depressive symptoms and 8 of the 9 QoL domains assessed. Only 4 participants (11.8%) were tested for the detection of the new coronavirus. Access to ART drugs was not possible for 5 interviewees (14.7%).CONCLUSIONS: It was shown that during the COVID-19 pandemic, PLWHA had a high rate of depression and low monthly income. Access to tests for the detection of the new coronavirus by PLWHA was very scarce.
