Os estudos de Walton, Hackman e Oldham, Huse e Cummings, Lippitt, Westley, Werther e Davis, Nadler e Lawler são clássicos? Pilatti, Luís Eduardo Picinin, Claudia Tania Helmann, Caroline Lievore Santos, Celso Bilynkievycz dos 6.02.01.05-3 Administração de Recursos Humanos Qualidade de vida no trabalho; Clássico; Richard I. Walton. Quality of life at work; Classic; Richard I. Walton. OBJECTIVE: To discuss the classic status attributed to studies by Walton, Hackman and Oldham, Huse and Cummings, Lippitt, Westley, Werther and Davis and Nadler and Lawler in the Brazilian academic environment.METHODS: This research note is characterized as an academic essay. The essay allows for the discussion of the theme and the exposition of the authors' ideas and points of view supported by referential research.RESULTS: Despite the real recognition of its value, the Walton study is not a “classic” in the sense given by the scientific literature to the term. The scope of studies by Hackman and Oldham, Huse and Cummings, Lippitt, Westley, Werther and Davis and Nadler and Lawler present indicators that are much lower than those of Walton.CONCLUSIONS: The classic status attributed in the Brazilian academic world to a set of works that address quality of life at work, developed in the United States in the 1970s and 1980s, is wrong.
