Resumo: OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the main self-esteem and self-image evaluation questionnaires used in Brazilian studies with the elderly.METHODS: A literature search was done on the subject.RESULTS: It found that the questionnaires more often used to assess self-esteem of the elderly is the Rosenberg Scale (1965), while for the evaluation of the self-image Scale Silhouettes of Stunkard et al. (1983) is often used. It was also possible to identify a questionnaire that purport to assess both self-esteem and self-image of the elderly, proposed by Steglich (1978).CONCLUSIONS: The questionnaire proposed by Steglich (1978) was more reliable, since it was developed and validated specifically for elderly Brazilians, allowing the evaluation of self-esteem and self-image in order more complete.
