Resumo: The energy industry has a growing number of surveys, as energy consumption is high overall. In this sense, patent analysis is a method that seeks to identify new technologies in certain areas. The aim of this work is to identify the evolution of the technologies associated with solar thermal (EST) and photovoltaic (ESF) between the years 2004 and 2016. For that, a research was carried out in the patent offices: European Patent Office); the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and the Brazilian Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), from the ACCLAIMIP database. The study identified 1030 patents, with INIPI having 23, EPO 163 and USPTO 297 patents deposited, with INPI having 60, EPO 221 and USPTO with 266. In general, the results indicated that the analysis of patents generates current wide knowledge and can serve as the basis for investment decisions in research and development in this area.
