Resumo: Fluorescent lamps used widely by industries, businesses, and homes, require proper disposal because they contain heavy metals that are toxic and harmful to the environment, also generate a large amount of ultraviolet (UV) rays, which on long term exposure can cause skin blemishes. The new market trend in replacing fluorescent lamps with LED technology lamps is based on sustainability, superior energy efficiency, the low level of decay of the luminous flux over its useful life, the significant reduction of the maintenance factor with respect the fluorescent lamps. The objective of this work was the development of a project to replace the lighting system of different areas in the Federal Technological University of Paraná - Campus Curitiba, headquarters on center. Through a new system using LED technology, complying strictly with the recommendations of the NBR ISO / CIE 8995-1, in order to regularize places that currently have luminous flux far below the minimum values required by norm, and to improve the energetic efficiency of the lighting of the educational institution. After completing all the necessary steps for the development of the project, it was possible to conclude that the changes made in the system and the retrofit of some places, met the requirements described in standard, improving the quality of the lighting with the significant reduction of the installed power and of electricity costs. The project proved feasible for implementation through the calculation of realized return on investment, characterizing itself as a medium-term investment.
