Resumo: The need for sustainable development and for the diversification of the Brazilian energy mix in order to reduce socio-environmental impacts has caused a growth in the use of renewable energy sources. Solar energy through grid-connected photovoltaic systems (GCPS) is an example of a booming clean and renewable energy source. Studies show that Brazil has a great solar radiation potential, however, little is known about the productivity of GCPS, especially in the State of Paraná, one of the biggest electricity producers in the country. Most of Paraná’s electricity generation originates from hydroelectric plants due to the large river basin in the region. On the other hand, the expansion of this source in the energy mix is decreasing because of the environmental, social and economic impacts caused by the impoundment of rivers to form large reservoirs of water and consequently flood of areas. Given this prospect of increasingly using GCPS, the objective of this research was to estimate the performance of these systems in different regions of the State of Paraná. Different levels of irradiation and temperature found throughout the state and also different types of photovoltaic technologies were taken in consideration in this study. The determination of the performance ratio values made it possible to verify and analyze the productivity of GCPS for different photovoltaic technologies in relation to the average temperature presented in the 399 cities of the State. The results of this research show that the GCPS with thin film technologies are the ones with the highest performance ratios, especially the Cadmium telluride (CdTe) technology. The highest performance ratios in the State are located in the Southeast mesoregion and the lowest values in the Northwest mesoregion.
