Resumo: This paper presents a study and a computational implementation of the method called modified “look ahead”, for the estimation of the point of maximum load of electrical power systems. This method provides a quick analysis of the voltage stability through the estimation of the “PxV” (or “λxV”) curve, using only three power-flow solutions. In this context, it was also studied and implemented a Continuous Power-Flow algorithm, which was used as the basis for the modified “look ahead” method and to compare the results. For the computational simulations, 5-bar (Stagg e El-Abiad) test systems and 14-bar of IEEE test systems were used. Through the results, the modified “look ahead” method proves to be very efficient for the rapid estimation of the critical point. It is also verified that the larger the initial step size, the greater the accuracy of the method.
