Resumo: Energy efficiency is achieved through the most varied methods, there are simpler ways, such as consumption reduction, until the development of more complex tools, such as creation of more efficient equipments using new technologies. There is a continuous search for resources to reduce losses and increase the efficiency of all components of the electrical system. The residential energy sector represents approximately 27% of the Brazilian power system, so the need for new mechanisms is evident in order to seek intelligent consumption. One of these resources is the Internet of Things, a technology that can bring benefits to many areas of knowledge, including the energy sector. This project proposes the development of a prototype using the main concepts of Internet of Things, to increase residential energy efficiency. The system created verifies the geographic position of the user's smartphone and calculates the distance between the residence and the device. If the user is outside a predetermined radius, the prototype deactivates the loads that are fed through a contactor, reducing the waste of energy caused by devices in standby mode and unnecessarily conected equipments. If the user is within the predetermined radius, the prototype activates previously disconnected loads and performs control of the electric shower, because it is a significant load on the residential energy consumption. Finally, the prototype performs the measurement of electrical variables of the residence including the consumption, sending off data in real time to the smartphone. The developed project seeks to create a tool capable of assisting and increasing the user's awareness about energy consumption, aiming at increasing the energy efficiency of the residence.
