Resumo: Maintainability is a design topic that each day gains more attention and value during the product development and design, as it acts a differential among them. Even observed this way, nowadays tools that are able to assist the project teams in a proper manner during product design are very scarce. This work presents the development and validation of: a set of directives, a tool and metrics to be applied during the initial maintainability design stages. The crescent interest in this subject arises from the possibility of monetary savings in product development in the same measure that it can make the product more attractive to customers. In order to structure this work, a bibliographical revision of the maintainability subject was the starting point. Mechanical systems were analyzed focusing in maintainability. Based in this information ensemble, a methodical procedure, based in handbooks, is proposed to verify the adherence of proposed product conceptions to maintainability parameters. A case study illustrate the proposed methods. The results found during the analysis can be used as proof of the effectiveness of the proposed directives set in maintainability orientation during product design.
