Resumo: |
Phase separators are present in many industrial process, among then in off shore oil exploration. Nowadays the equipments used offers low efficiency and occupy a large volume in the off shore platform. Cyclonic separators were developed to replace the current separators, because they are lighter, compact and more efficient. To understand the dynamics related to the functioning of these equipments, the present work studies the flow inside the expansion chamber of a cyclonic separator. The problem is governed by the conservation of mass and momentum equations and the interaction between the phases are modeled by the Two fluid Model e a compressive model is used to capture the free surface. To model the turbulence is used the SST model. The equations are discretized by the Element based Finite Volume Method. The numeric mesh is build by the software ICEM-CFD and the software ANSYS-CFX 13.0 is used to solve the discretized equations. The main parameters of the expansion chamber are evaluated from the numerical simulation results as, film thickness, residence time, inclination angle, height lift of the liquid level and the separation rate. Besides the analysis made to understand the flow inside the separator, correlations were made for the main parameters in function of dimensionless numbers. A practical tool was developed to design and optimize cyclonic separators, using the correlations. |
