Resumo: The main purpose of this research to describe the appropriate heat treatment to the CA-6 NM steel, qualifying a welding procedure, given that, during the heat cycle there is a retemper at the heat affected zone (HAZ). In first time many tempers were performed, all of which showed satisfactory results in reducing the hardness of the HAZ and increasing its ductility. Following the study, three bending tests were perfomed, which were not satisfactory due to the ductile fracture that occurs in the molten zone close to the interface with the base metal. After the study of fracture, it was concluded that type II grain boundaries were the main embrittlement agents favoring the formation of intergranular cracks, and consequently, disapproving the welded joints at the bending test.
