Resumo: The fast-growing eletric and electronic industry has been causing positive and negative impacts on the modern society. The continuous development of new technologies increases the obsolescence of several products. This fact directly increases the generation rate of the Waste of Electric and Electronic Equipment and should open the society’s eyes to its appropriate treatment. Recycling is one of the ways, since it offers the opportunity to recover raw material, contributing to a healthier management of our natural resources. This study provides relevant information regarding the WEEE recycling process, focusing on the pre-recycling steps (dismantling and preprocessing). As main objective, it has analysed the economic viability of a pilot plant project that would dismantle WEEE derived from computer peripherals. Other aspects as environmental and social were also considered. By using the Systematic Layout Planning methodology, a possible layout could be modeled. This study has provided technical and reasonable information in order to stimulate the WEEE reverse logistics and has showed that, considering the volume scenario could turn the operation economically feasable and attractive, encouraging public and private investments.
