Resumo: All plastic ever produced by mankind still exists, because there was not enough time for its natural decomposition. This creates a huge negative environmental impact and is an economical waste of resources. The solution to recycle to the maximum all thermoplastic material generated is already known, but it is not exploited. In Brazil, the most widespread and viable form of recycling is mechanics, a process that begins with the dimensional reduction of the waste, an activity performed by a shredder or mill. This work aims to design and produce a thermoplastic waste shredder focused on the needs of the Federal University of Technology of Paraná (UTFPR) - Campus Curitiba. For this, a benchmarking of similar products was carried out, a questionnaire with UTFPR students and servers, and a dynamic with potential users. Based on the results obtained, an equipment for shredding thermoplastic materials optimized to the needs and limitations of UTFPR was produced. Among the care taken, we sought to prioritize safety aspects so that it can be widely used by the academic community. The final result was a shredder for thermoplastic material capable of processing different types of thermoplastic waste effectively and safely.
