The objective of this study was to evaluate the reliability of radiological image from adenoidal hypertrophy in children and adolescents observed in lateral cranium-cervical-facial exposure and to verify how to make it more efficient in its utilization in Orthodontics and Facial Orthopedics and Otorhinolarynology areas. Parallel to this and considering the conflicting opinions observed in scientific literature about radiographic exams in growing patients, a research was conducted to verify the radiation dosage using thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLD-100). The reliability of head and neck radiography, in lateral norm, to visualization and diagnose of the degree of adenoidal hypertrophy was effectuated by an initial analysis of otorhinolarynologists about theirs preference between two types of images: conventional radiography and digitalized and treated copy by inversion process. Based on the results of this work, it was concluded that: a) consulted otorhinolarynologists prefer to receive not only conventional radiography but digitalized copy too, that allows the identification of adenoidal hypertrophy area more precisely; b) the radiation dosage in children’s face resulting from radiographic exposure of cephalometric exam can be considered of low intensity, and do not apparently represents future risks due to its stochastic characteristics. |
