Resumo: This work aimed to evaluate the use of Urochloa and Sorghum as cover crops and its effects on weed suppression and soybean yield comparing this species with Avena, the most traditional used specie. The experiment was carried out at the experimental area of the Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná, campus of Dois Vizinhos-PR in a randomized complete block design, with three treatments and four replicates, being: T1 Urochloa ruziziensis, T2 Sorghum bicolor, and T3 Avena sativa as cover plant. The following traits were evaluated: total and residual biomass production of Urochloa, sorghum and oats; weed floristic survey and yield components of final soybean yield. It is possible to conclude that that Sorghum and Urochloa have greater total and residual biomass. Urochloa showed a greater weed suppression. Final soybean yield was not affected by treatments.
