Resumo: More and more men have become aware of the importance of natural resources and their preservation. Thus universities has sought to help develop sustainable and renewable alternatives to meet the needs of society. Bamboo is a very promising material because of their characteristics, it can be used as food, in ornamentation, in the paper and furniture industry, handicrafts and construction, bamboo is widely used for this purpose in some Latin American countries. In America, Brazil is the country with the largest variety of native species. Among the main features that make bamboo a sustainable material is considered its rapid growth, the environmental services provided by bamboo forest, beyond the physical and mechanical properties of their stems that enable this kind of grass, replace wood in some uses. The combined use of bamboo culms beam with packaging discarded PET for the manufacture of composite materials, is a leading engineering solution for the production of materials for the construction industry. The combination of these materials produces a composite end type material that combines light weight and high strength. While developing the different composite materials can be used in small diameter bamboo, available in Brazil, as well as discarded PET packaging. In this sense this work was to evaluate the mechanical physical properties of a material consisting of bamboo stems and pet and determine its applications which had low compressive strength and flexural strength, requiring more research and improvement of technology.
