Therefore, knowing the maximum number of individuals that a stand supports is essential to achieve maximum productive use, as well as supporting silvicultural interventions aimed at reducing competition and avoiding self-thinning. This work had as main objective to evaluate the density and to guide the management of stands of Pinus elliottii Engelm. In the Southwest of Paraná. In order to collect the data, preference was given to points where there were occurrences of dead individuals. Using the sampling method proposed by Bitterlich, where data were collected from 10 sample points of four stands, with 15, 18, 20 and 25 years old, located in a property in the municipality of Mariópolis - PR. From the individuals included in the sample unit were measured the height, CBH, and the distance from the central tree to the competitors. Subsequently, the punctual density was evaluated by the method proposed by Spurr, using a BAF of 2.3. The roughing weights were defined based on the relative spacing index. Stands with 20 and 25 years of age demonstrated to be in high competition, requiring immediate silvicultural intervention. This does not apply at this time to stands of 15 and 18 years of age, which still have potential to increase until density control is necessary. The level of thinnings for stands of 20 and 25 years were 38.5% and 41% of the number of trees, respectively. No desenvolvimento de um plantio florestal, as árvores são influenciadas por suas características genéticas e pelas condições impostas pelo ambiente, desenvolvendo-se até atingir um limite na relação entre o número de árvores e o seu tamanho. Portanto, conhecer o número máximo de indivíduos que um povoamento suporta é essencial para alcançar o máximo aproveitamento produtivo, além de embasar a realização de intervenções silviculturais que visam reduzir a competição e evitar o autodesbaste. Este trabalho teve como objetivo principal avaliar a densidade e orientar o manejo de povoamentos de Pinus elliottii Engelm. no Sudoeste do Paraná. Para a coleta dos dados foram escolhidos preferencialmente pontos onde há a ocorrência de indivíduos mortos. Utilizando-se do método de amostragem proposto por Bitterlich, onde foram coletados dados provenientes de 10 pontos amostrais de quatro povoamentos, com 15, 18, 20 e 25 anos, localizados em uma propriedade no município de Mariópolis - PR. Dos indivíduos incluídos na unidade amostral foram mensuradas a altura, CAP, e a distância da árvore central até as concorrentes. Posteriormente, foi realizada a avaliação da densidade pontual pelo método proposto por Spurr, utilizando um FAB de 2,3. Os pesos de desbaste foram definidos com base no índice de espaçamento relativo. Os povoamentos com 20 e 25 anos demonstraram estar em elevada competição, necessitando de intervenção silvicultural imediata. O que não se aplica neste momento aos povoamentos com 15 e 18 anos, que ainda apresentam potencial de incremento até que seja necessário o controle da densidade.
