Resumo: Poultry production is an activity of great importance for Brazil and for the Southwest Region of the Paraná generates large amounts of waste, the main target use as organic fertilizer. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of increasing doses of poultry litter with or without nitrogen fertilization on maize production. The work was conducted in the experimental area of the Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná (UTFPR), Campus Dois Vizinhos, the experimental design was a randomized block design in split plot design with three replications. In the main plot doses of poultry litter were allocated as follows: 0; 6; 12; 18 t ha-1, the subplot consists of the application or not of 200 kg ha-1 N sidedress on corn crop. A witness was located corresponding to the recommended mineral fertilizers for maize (100 kg ha-1 P2O5, 100 kg ha-1 of K2O and 200 kg ha-1 of N) in order to compare with organic fertilization. Yield components of maize (rows per year, kernels per row, grains per spike, thousand grain weight, grain yield) were evaluated was also evaluated for plant height, ear insertion height to determine their growth vigor. Grain yield of maize was higher when using the nitrogen topdressing associated with poultry litter. The use of 6 t ha-1 of poultry litter plus 200 kg ha-1 N resulted similar to the use of 18 t ha-1 of poultry litter without the use of nitrogen in yield. With larger doses of poultry litter is added high amounts of phosphorus and potassium, it is not efficient as the use of these nutrients. The combination of chicken manure with nitrogen in corn, determines the use of smaller doses of organic fertilizer for highest corn yield by avoiding the application of high doses of nutrients, the lower the contaminant potential of this fertilizer.
