Resumo: The pig has been highlighted as an important agricultural activity for producing the protein source in worldwide consumption. The State of Paraná has the third largest Brazilian herd of pigs, with 5.45 million heads. The highest concentration of the herd is in the west, with 40% of the total. However, this activity has been over the years, mostly for economic reasons, which involve high manufacturing costs and final price variable and, in some cases, no compensation. The objective of this work was to diagnose the financial performance of some mills in western Paraná, through a field survey using a semi-structured interview with Swine Production Units (UPL). The results obtained with the interview, were mounted graphics for easy viewing of results and point out the main positive and negative points of each unit, and possible solutions. 70% of the units surveyed had positive results, which showed that activity in the region is viable, and can be improved with a more effective economic and financial management, and investment in skilled labor, a factor that proved decisive in the final outcome of activity.
