Resumo: The inclusion of wheatgrass in animal diets may be compensatory in relation to the lower costs that it presents, however we must evaluate if this does not alter the ruminal microbiota, consequently the performance of the animal. It should be noted that protozoa are of paramount importance in the degradation of fiber and starch, so it requires evaluation when using alternative feed. The aim was to quantify the ciliate protozoa in lambs fed levels of inclusion of hairspray. The assay was carried out at the Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná, Campus Dois Vizinhos, at the UNEPE of animal metabolism, from June to August 2017. Four male sheep were castrated and fistulated in the rumen with a mean live weight of 40 kg. These animals were kept in metabolic cages with individual drinking fountains and feeders, fed with 40% Azevém hay and 60% concentrate. The diets supplied were isoenergetic and isoprotein with 12.5% crude protein and 68% total digestible nutrients. The experimental design was a Latin square (4x4), composed of four inclusion levels: 0, 19, 38 and 57% of wheat in the dry matter of the total ration instead of maize. The experimental period has 80 days, with 15 days for adaptation, 5 days of feed and feces collection and 1 day of ruminal fluid collection. For the gothering was done samples the animals cannule bere opened and the removal will be done. The samples will be stored in plastic bottles with 20 ml of unfiltered rumen liquid and fixed in 20 ml of 18.5% formalin, then 1 ml of rumen liquid and 9 ml of 30% glycerine were added and then lugol solution (100 ml) mL of distilled water, five grams of iodine and ten grams of potassium iodide). The counting averages were taken in 100 independent fields, performed in duplicate and analyzed under a 10x magnification microscope. The mean value of the count in the fields was multiplied by the correction factor of 1,600. Data were submitted to the analysis, using the Linear Models model, generalized, assuming Poisson distribution with logarithmic link function, with a significance level of 1%, using the procedure GENMOD of the statistical package SAS. The use of wheat in substitution of maize at different inclusion levels did not influence the population of ciliate protozoa in rumen.
