In this way the São Marcos composite has in its base two European races, the Angus and the Marchigiana, both with paternal profile. The efficiency of the animals has much to do with the size. The animal biometry can be a tool for analysis and to create parameters of maternal and paternal breeds. The present study was conducted at São Marcos Farm, located in Dois Vizinhos – PR - Brazil, with the objective to evaluate and compare the body measurements of three groups of cows: 19 of São Marcos composite (SM; ½ Marchigiana + ½ Aberdeen Angus), 10 zebu (Z) and 10 half blood (SM50; 1/2 composite + 1/2 zebu), all aged over four years. The measures evaluated were: body score (ECC), live weight, thoracic circumference (CT), length of rump (CG), width of rump (LG), length of the head (CCA) and head width (LCA), body length (CC), body height (H) and volume (VOL). The tools used were: measuring tape, trunk of containment, rope and balance. There was a difference in weight between the cows, being 524.4 kg for SM, for 469.4 Kg for SM50 and 412,5 kg for Z. High correlations were observed between ECC with the weight (0.70), CT (0.68) and with the VOL (0.62) and between the weight with CT (0.86) and LG (0.67). Interestingly, the measure of body volume (VOL), as proposed in this work of original form, showed high correlation with weight (0.87), CT (0.92) and with CC (0.67). It is concluded that the biometric measurements, in general, are very equivalent between the cows of the São Marcos composite, half blood and zebu. Biometry is an important tool in the evaluation of beef cattle and should be further studied and used in bovine breeding programs. A base de fêmeas do Brasil é composta por sangue Zebuíno. Assim, essas fêmeas são por excelência raças maternas. No cruzamento moderno é interessante que se trabalhe com raças paternas para cobertura dessas vacas. Dessa forma o composto São Marcos tem em sua base duas raças Europeias, o Angus e o Marchigiana, ambas com perfil paterno. A eficiência dos animais tem muita relação com o tamanho. Assim a biometria pode ser uma ferramenta de análise e para criar parâmetros de raças maternas e paternas. Nas raças estudadas os dados de biometria são poucos. O estudo foi conduzido na Fazenda São Marcos, localizada no município de Dois Vizinhos, com o objetivo de avaliar e comparar as medidas corporais de três grupos de vacas: 19 do composto São Marcos (SM; ½ Marchigiana + ½ Aberdeen Angus), 10 zebuínas (Z) e 10 meio sangue (SM50; ½ Composto + ½ zebuíno), todas com idade acima de quatro anos. As medidas corporais avaliadas foram: escore corporal (ECC), peso vivo, circunferência torácica (CT), comprimento de garupa (CG), largura de garupa (LG), comprimento de cabeça (CCA) e largura da cabeça (LCA), comprimento do corpo (CC), altura (H) e volume (VOL). As ferramentas utilizadas foram: fita métrica, tronco de contenção, corda e balança. Houve diferença no peso entre as vacas avaliadas, sendo para SM de 524,4 Kg, para SM50 de 469,4 Kg e para Z de 412,5 Kg. Foram observadas altas correlações entre ECC com o PESO (0,70), CT (0,68) e com o VOL (0,62) e entre o PESO com CT (0,86) e LG (0,67). De forma interessante, a medida de volume corporal (VOL), proposta neste trabalho de forma original, apresentou alta correlação com o PESO (0,87), CT (0,92) e com CC (0,67). Se conclui que as medidas biométricas, de forma geral, são muito equivalentes entre vacas do composto São Marcos, meio sangue e zebuínas.
