Resumo: Lubricating oil is the main waste generated in the automotive repair sector, considered dangerous because it can cause damage to the environment and public health. The present project aimed to evaluate the liquid waste management system and the efficiency of the effluent treatment system, as well as to determine the effluent toxicity of the automotive repair companies in the municipality of Francisco Beltrão-PR. The study was carried out by means of an on-site visit in which the liquid waste management methodologies and the effluent treatment system were evaluated, in relation to NBR's standards 9800/1987, 12235/1992 and CONAMA 357/2005 and 430/2011. The efficiency of the water and oil separator was determined by analyzing the physical-chemical parameters of the liquid effluent, such as temperature, pH, sedimentable solids, total solids and oils and greases. Temperatures ranged between 26,5 ° C and 29,7 ° C, and were in accordance with current legislation. The pH values ranged from 3,14 to 7,49. Total solids ranged from 330 mg/L to 3.306 mg/L. For sedimentable solids, values below 0,5 mL/L up to 30 mL/L were obtained. For oils and greases, values between 22,0 mg/L and greater than 500.000 mg/L were found. The toxicity test was performed using Artemia salina as a bioindicator, the result indicated that the effluent generated by the companies is toxic in 90% of the cases.
