Resumo: The activities carried out in mechanical workshops, such as oil change, adjustments or changes in brake and suspension systems, washing, exchange or disposal of automotive parts are responsible for the expressive generation of solid wastes and contaminated liquids. These activities, when performed improperly, can pose risks to the worker's physical integrity and to the environment, requiring safety and environmental management systems so that the quality of the environment and worker's well-being are ensured. The present research had as objective to verify the conditions of the environmental management and work safety in the mechanical workshops of the municipality of Francisco Beltrão-PR by means of the evaluation of the compliance with the legislation. Data were collected through visual and auditory analysis, photographic records and questionnaire application addressing specific points of legislation and regulations considered. Most of the workshops evaluated presented failures in the environmental and safety management systems. Therefore, based on the verification of the resources, inputs and common impacts generated by these companies, an Improvement Plan was carried out containing objectives, measures and actions to Work environment, enhance natural resources and reduce environmental impacts.
