Resumo: The contamination of the soil and the water resources are environmental issues, given that they are crucial elements for every life form on earth. One habit that is responsible for the contamination of these resources is the improper destination of urban solid wastes, becoming a potential polluter for the environment. Leachate is a contaminant that comes from solid wastes, which is capable of infiltrating if there is no such thing as a system for final waste disposal and a correct soil sealing in the landfill. As a result, this present work aimed to prove the possible contamination verified for the geophysical method, 2D Electric Tomography, in the surroundings of the landfill, which allowed the identification of important evidences that the subsoil conditions were altered, due to the high electrical conductivity presented. Soil and subterranean water were investigated in all four monitoring sites installed in the possibly contaminated areas of the landfill that was being studied. In order to obtain data for the characterization of a possible soil contamination, Physical-Chemical analysis were made, determining the following parameters: total organic carbon, granulometry, pH, electrical conductivity and heavy metals. The results regarding heavy metals were obtained through the comparison with the prevention values (PV) and investigation (IV), established in the CONAMA nº 420 (CONAMA, 2009) Resolution. Regarding the subterranean water, Physical-Chemical and microbiological analysis were made, determining the following parameters: biochemical demand of oxygen (BOD), chemical demand of oxygen (COD), pH, electrical conductivity, total solids dissolved, heavy metals and thermotolerant coliforms, the results obtained were compared to the maximum value allowed (MVA) established in the CONAMA nº 396 (CONAMA, 2008) Resolution for all prevailing uses. The soil analysis results, it is possible to observe, through the parameters pH and copper, a direct interference from irregular waste disposal. In relation subterranean water results, it can be observed that BOD and COD presented significant values, being related to percolation. Overall, it can be concluded that the soil and the subterranean water presents contamination indications.
