Resumo: This paper presents a preliminary study of the technological development of engines in torque measurement mechanisms, called dynamometers, aiming to meet and assist in choosing the most appropriate hydraulic dynamometer model to perform the measurement of torque of internal combustion engines used by the teams of Baja SAE Formula SAE projects and the Federal Technological University of Paraná – Campus Guarapuava. It describes the power cycle of an internal combustion engine, and how the torque is generated. It introduces the concept of fluid, their properties, their behavior within a flow between parallel plates and the importance of calculating the number of Reynolds. Sets the hydraulic dynamometer model being used, and discusses the behavior of the dynamometer used as a template according to the specifications of the original design. The calculations performed are reused for a readjustment of the model in order to allow it to operate with easily found on the market working fluids. The usability of some working fluids that have been suggested is evaluated for each engine in use.
