Resumo: The research development consists of proposing improvements in the design of a critical component of one of the machines inserted in the cotton processing of a textile industry. For this purpose, a data collection, of experts and specifications of the manufacturers will be made, regarding its operation and later analysis of failures of the main rotating components of the equipment studied through the use of FMEA technique. Through this tool, it is sought to find abnormal behavior of the main mechanical components of the equipment, to classify them according to the criterion of criticality that each one brings to the process and later to perform analysis of finite elements, using realistic scenarios, to arrive at the best model that the selected component can take over to ensure process reliability. The study will be carried out in a descriptive applied way, using a hypothetical factory to analyze the production process and perform the process investigation, qualitative and quantitative data collection, for further development of FMEA and finite element analysis. Based on the aid of these tools, an improvement will be made to the component selected for the case study, promoting a significant improvement in the life expectancy of the case, thus ensuring greater reliability to the component and consequently an improvement in the operational availability of the production line, reducing unnecessary maintenance interventions.
