Resumo: The constant growth of large urban centers has led to the decrease in the green areas, which are important for mitigating the effects of “heat islands”, the percolation of rainwater, the maintenance of local biodiversity and for leisure and contemplation. In view of the scarcity of areas available for the implementation of green areas, a way to increase them can be achieved by the use the urban roofs implementation of green roofs in residences and buildings. In some historical accounts, green roofs is a millenary technique that has several benefits and its use comes from ancient civilizations to currently in several countries. Green roofs are made up of the use of installation bases roofs that allows the placement of substrates consisting of overlapping several layers. In tropical climates, the implementation of plants on roofs poses challenges for cultivation. This work was carried out from a project developed at the State University of Londrina, to collect, identify, cultivate and propagate species of Brazilian flora. The installation of the green roofs has gone on several stages, from the installation of blankets to the adaptation of vegetation. In this work he used plants of resting species, which best adapt to tropical climate regions. The results indicate that after the installation of the green roof, internal thermal sensation improved significantly, in addition to decreasing surface runoff and the occurrence of pollinators and fruit dispersers.
