Resumo: The flow path of a stream is the result of certain characteristics of its watershed, which are controlled by climate, geology, geomorphology, soil type and vegetation. In addition to these natural factors, the path of water flow can be modified by the bad planning of human activities, for example, over-exploitation of groundwater, drainage of wetlands, deforestation, erosion and soil compaction. This study aimed to explore, monitor and recover the ravine erosion, which is usually a result of human activities that can aggravate dimensions of a gully, thus is considered one of the worst environmental problems in Brazil, because they can modify the dynamics of soil basin, causing large losses of soil, sedimentation of rivers channels and creating huge valleys. Monitoring activities, planting leguminous vegetation and building booms protection reduced the significantly the soil loss of by soil entrainment. Thus, it was proven that ravine erosion control through the usage of low cost materials and easy availability has significant impact in soil loss reduction and is very important for the environmental conservation and recovery.
