The industrial sector is among of the most environment impactful sectors. Brazil is a major producer of wires and filaments and the silk production has greater environmental impacts than other natural fibers production. From the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology, each effect generated during the product’s life becomes possible to be evaluated. So, steps with the greatest potential for environmental degradation are identified and solutions are proposed and implemented effectively. This study aims to diagnose conditions for carrying out LCA in a raw silk yarn industry, in Londrina, Paraná. To conduct research, other LCA applications were reviewd and took into account the requirements of ISO 14040 and 14044. Data and information from silk yarn production were raised to construct the Life Cycke Inventory (LCI). A flowchart was built addressing all activities, inputs and outputs of the steps contained in the scope. Materials and energy consumed and generated were quantified according to data avaliability. With the data obtained, it was concluded that the studied company seeks to reduce the environmental impact of its production process with actions that are result of followed requirements of ISO 14001. If the company would monitor the flows of elementary processes individually it would be possible continuing and complete the LCA. With this, other proposals for improvement could be made in order to maintain and turn the raw silk yarn production more sustainable. |
