The city of Londrina is positioned in close proximity to the Tropic of Capricorn, thus in a strong climate transition zone. In the warm season prevails the low-pressure systems, and the high-pressure during the cold. Intermediate seasons sometimes present low systems, other times, the high ones. Whereas the air masses that operate in that area have their origin outside that region, by moving, they can provoke abrupt changes in the weather, which triggers episodes of intense winds and rains, that may occur altogether with lightning and hail. Using the rhythmic analysis methodology, atmospheric systems for 5 days prior to the wind episodes occurred from 2006 to 2016 were analyzed. The results showed that the continental Tropical mass and frontal systems are the major origin systems of the winds that reached the area. It was further noted that in the months of February, September and October, the highest frequency of gales was registered, such fact may be related to the continental intense warming during spring-summer transition, which may cause a higher performance of the continental Equatorial mass. In the months previously stated, the wind peaks registered were around 108 and 116 Km/h, and a direction pattern of the winds was also identified, with prevailing directions to SW, NW,
NE, N, W, and E. Along with the comprehension of the weather systems, as well with the history of the urban evolution, the systematization of the problems caused by windstorms over the area of Londrina was possible to be acknowledged, and, hence, drafting a proposal to minimize such impacts, by adopting a trees' planning as wind barriers. |
