A large volume of wastewater and sewage are generated in the coffee industry throughout Brazil. One of the most expressive solid residues in the production process is coffee grounds. This residue can become a valuable by product if used for the manufacture of activated biochar. This activated bio-carbon can be used inside the company, in processes of treatment of the effluent of the productive process, considering that, when treated by lagoon systems, generally, it does not present the necessary characteristics for direct destination in water bodies. Thus, the objective of this work is, produce an activated bio-carbon through grounds coffee, to study the adsorption with flow of organic compounds present in the effluent of the coffee industry. In order to carry out this study, coffee industry sewage was collected and tested for its behavior in the treatment of activated bio-coal with a flow variation of 0.4 to 0.8 and a pH of 1 to 5, in order to determine the optimum purity flow rate with the evaluation of equilibrium and adsorption of soluble compounds by applying the Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin models. The efficiency of activated bio-coal in the removal of color, COD and chloride present in the effluent was evaluated. For the color, COD and chloride parameters the results were satisfactory being within the one established according to resolution CONAMA 357. Among the isotherms, applied Temkin and Freundlich presented the best adjustments to the data. |
