Resumo: Glass is a non-crystaline inorganic material included among the silicates. Functionalization is the process of adding new functions and/or properties to a material by changing its surface chemistry. Despite having a diversity of properties, hydrophobicity is not inherent in glass, but it is a parameter that relates to the wettability of a material. The glass surface was modified by two methods - acid and basic, under similar time and temperature conditions followed by silane deposition. Coating consolidation were performed at two different temperatures, 80°C and 250°C. In addition, it was used a commercial available hydrophobic coating product for comparison. Surface wetting analysis were performed with the aid of a built and gauged goniometer. With exception of samples submitted to basic surface activation method, it could be noted that water repellency increased in all situations, especially regarding the sample coated with the commercial product under acid surface activation, which is the only classified as truly hydrophobic showing a contact angle of θe = 108.58°. Silanization processes at 80ºC were more effective in increasing the contact angle of all samples.
