The melting furnaces are equipment used to melt the metallic raw material, being able to be of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. In addition, they keep the liquid metal at a temperature suitable for the casting process. Various metal alloys can be formed by the casting process, such as aluminum alloys that have wide application in the process due to their low melting characteristics, high fluidity, small contraction during solidification, corrosion resistance, weldability and good strength / Weight. In the present work, a small furnace of the crucible type was built to be used in the teaching laboratory of the Federal Technological University of Paraná - Câmpus Londrina, in order to perform the fusion of aluminum alloys with the use of LPG fuel. The furnace concrete used in the furnace was molded manually and 45 mm thick. The materials used to construct the crucible and its support were selected based on the project constraints. The maximum working temperature of the oven was obtained with the use of an infrared thermometer, where the value obtained was 920 ºC. The furnace
performance was evaluated by means of the maximum working temperature, which was higher than the temperature required for the melting of the aluminum alloys. In addition, it was also possible to determine that the metal yield of 30 aluminum cans, whose mass is 378.5 g, was 58.81%. Finally, it was determined that for this experiment, the heat transfer rate of the furnace and the heat needed to raise the temperature of
the metal to the pouring was 972 W and 728 W, respectively. |
