Resumo: The incorporation of wastes in red ceramic mass is possible due to their chemical composition variation that presents, making it suitable for recycling of waste. In the present work was varied the incorporating of gypsum waste discarded construction in percentages of 0; 1; 2; 3; 5; 7.5 and 10% by weight of a red ceramic been used for producing ceramic bricks. Analyzes were performed on clay and gypsum waste by X-ray fluorescence, X-ray diffraction, thermal analysis, such as distribution of particle size of clay. The samples were pressed uniaxially with 22 MPa for 60 seconds, after there were fired at temperatures of 900, 1000 and 1100°C. And then it was determined the apparent density, water absorption, porosity and three point bending mechanical strength. The characterization indicated the presence of clay, halloysite 7A and quartz. The results were showed the feasibility of incorporating gypsum waste dough to red ceramic. The best result was for the incorporation of 2% gypsum residue when this mixture was fired at 1100°C temperature. As such, this composition showed better results than the standard sample with no addition gypsum waste.
