Resumo: The teacher plays a fundamental role in educating children. In 2018, food and nutrition education was included within the disciplines of science and biology by altering the national Education Guidelines and Bases Act as an auxiliary tool in the control of childhood obesity. This study aimed to verify the knowledge of basic nutrition in teachers of a municipal elementary school in Londrina. To this end, a questionnaire was elaborated with open and closed questions about food and nutrition, which was applied to 16 teachers at the beginning of 2019. The data represents only a sample of the population that is subject to presenting the concept of nutritional education to their students, but even if the law is imposed, it is necessary to have the training of teachers.
