Resumo: The exponential growth of urban areas, combined with the reduction of green areas and large flows of vehicles emitting air pollutants, have prompted significant changes in the temperature and surface runoff of rainwater in urban perimeters. The use of green roofs is a strategy that can mitigate these adverse effects. This research aimed at comparing and evaluating the thermal efficiency and rainwater runoff using green cover prototype and conventional coverings. All research was developed at the Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná, Medianeira campus. Three prototypes of masonry were constructed to evaluate thermal efficiency and rainfall, one with green cover, the other with fiber cement roof and the third with a thermoacoustic roof. Minitab and Excel were used to perform the data analysis. It was observed that green roof presented better comfort compared to the other two systems about 2°C less for warmer days and 2 ° C more for cooler days. The Tukey and Fischer test proves a difference in the averages for the 08h: 30min time for the fiber cement roof. The time from 13h00min was the one that had the most expressive results for the green roof and the time of 22h: 00min did not have significant difference of means. For the rainfall, the green cover drained less water, with an average of 50 percent to less than the asbestos cement roof. Therefore, the green roofs have better thermal and drainage conditions that are more favorable to the urban environment. The green roof has to be further deployed to society mainly for the issues of drainage frameworks and improving the local environment.
