Resumo: Fluoride levels in public water supply are a public health measure, which is the most effective in reducing dental caries. It is possible to find in several regions of Brazil, fluoride levels in water supply, often at a high level to reflect dental fluorosis, sometimes at a low level to the point of not reflecting on the prevention of dental caries, which makes it essential the study of the fluoride content already existing in water so that fluoridation is done at the appropriate level of caries control. The work describes the development of the analytical methodology by means of potentiometric methods with selective ion electrode and spectrophotometric, in order to evaluate if the fluoride concentrations are in agreement with the current Brazilian Legislation, for water samples collected in different neighborhoods of the municio de Medianeira-PR. According to the parameters adopted, for the spectrophotometric method only one sample is in agreement with the water potability standard for fluoride contents (0.6 and 0.8 mg L-1), while for the potentiometric method none of the collected samples are in agreement with the standards of potability.
