The study had as objective the diagnose the management of solid waste at the Federal Technological University of Paraná, Medianeira. For this study, first it was identified the sources of solid waste within the University using as base the campus map and verification in loco. The quantitative and qualitative survey included the collect of waste at the departments classified as sources. The sampling was done in a time span of one week, between September fifteen and twenty of 2014. The waste was classified in organic, plastic, non-recyclable, tailings, paper/pasteboard, medical and laboratory waste, wood, rubber, metal, electronic, Styrofoam, glass and construction waste. To analyze the current profile of the solid waste management observations were made such as packaging, collect, transport, storage, treatment, destination and final disposal of solid waste. Based on the diagnose results it were proposed improvements or changes for the solid waste management. The campus has in its infrastructure departments like the administrative building, lecture class building, laboratory building and common use area that are sources of solid waste. The results of the qualitative and quantitative indicate that the major part of the waste is composed by tailings (55%). It was observed that the management of the waste is realized by the campus cleaning staff, being storage in an inadequate way, and exposed to rain and wild animals. For the final disposal, the University intends the recyclable waste to the Agents association and the non-recyclable are collected by the City. By the in loco analysis, it was proposed some improvements for the collect of this waste, as the use of color plastic bags in the established pattern of the CONAMA 275/01. The waste storage should be in a place that doesn’t allow access to animals, avoiding places where it would be exposed to rain and facilitating the collect to the final destination; and conduct lectures in environmental education covering the University staff and students. |
