Resumo: The swine production is one of the main activities developed in the West of Paraná was considered as a potentially polluting due to environmental hazards caused by manure. The decomposition of waste produces biogas which is composed mainly of gases like carbon dioxide and methane. Considering the benefits of the biogas generation due to high energy potential of methane present in it, this project was the purpose of to carry out systematic studies to evaluate the power generation and carbon credits in a small rural property. The methodologies used in this study included literature review, measuring the flow of biogas through a gas meter, analyzing the composition of biogas and the use of mathematical models of estimates. The results showed that to the farm studied, the use of biogas for electricity production is not viable due to the high costs of implementation and operation of the system. The same way, the amount of carbon credits was insufficient to be economically attractive. But, one should not underestimate the benefits of the treatment process of waste to the environment.
