Resumo: The search for alternative sources of energy has been widely discussed today and most countries are concerned about global warming and aim to drastically reduce emissions of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. In this scenario, alternative sources ofenergy and that have low environmental impact, whether of implantation or operation, have been increasingly studied. It also discusses the need to increase the efficiency of energy sources such as solar thermal, mainly used for heating residential water. Solar energy is considered as a great source of energy resource, whether in the form of electric energy or in the form of heat for heating water. This work presents the design and execution of a solar collector using alternative materials. The proposed alternative material consists of glass tubes from tubular fluorescent lamps, it is believed that such tubes filled with water increase the solar concentration. The tests carried out show that the technique of using glass tubes in collectors must be improved because, due to the high internal temperature of the collector, the water contained in the tubes has evaporated. Despite this fact, the results indicate that glass tubes from tubular fluorescent lamps can be used to manufacture a solar collector because they function as concentrators of solar radiation and help to store the heat for longer in the collector and thereby increase the Efficiency.
