Resumo: The present work is based on the perspective of the Sustainable Design approaches to the reorientation of the models of cultivation and food consumption in the initiatives of Urban Gardens in Curitiba. The objective was to study a set of recommendations and guidelines for projects that aim to contribute to the communication of the potential of the Non-Conventional Food Plants (NFPs) of the Southern Region and to encourage their cultivation and consumption as a way to value local biodiversity and promote autonomy and food security in the communities participating in these initiatives. The studies were concentrated in the Community Garden of Cajuru. This cut was determined by the important role played by this initiative that seeks to introduce the cultivation of PANCs as a strategy to strengthen food security in the community. The present work has a qualitative and quantitative character and the methodological procedures used in its development were bibliographic research, documentary research, field research and surveys. As a result, this work generated a compilation of recommendations and project guidelines based on the introduction of the native PANCs of the Brazilian South region as a way to guide the managers of the Horta do Cajuru so that they can program possible actions to be taken within the Horta dynamics, addressing its initiatives for the valorization of local biodiversity and the strengthening of autonomy and food security. For the area of Design, this work seeks to guide the participation of designers in projects with similar objectives and points out a role for Design in local and sustainable development initiatives.
