This work also presents new technologies in use for the photographical act, its new features, means of transmission and storage. It discusses these new features, which can be assigned to photography within the current digital means, through Internet on social networking sites like Facebook and Orkut. It discusses how photographs can be, in certain way, considered construction of the reality, taking into account the actions of human beings to conceive them and also, the new digital technologies. It discusses how the notion of index is currently configured and how can it be related to the construction of identity and profiles in the cyberspace. The methodology used in this work consists of literature research and participant observation of the analyzed social networking sites. Este trabalho apresenta questões relacionadas à fotografia, ligadas a sua história, a noção de registro do real que já esteve em torno da mesma, e aos significados e sentidos que são atribuídos a ela pelas pessoas. Apresenta as novas tecnologias ligadas ao ato fotográfico, como os novos formatos, meios de veiculação e de armazenamento. Questiona as novas funções que podem ser atribuídas à fotografia nos meios digitais atuais, por intermédio da Internet nos sites de redes sociais Facebook e Orkut. Discute como as fotografias podem ser, de certa forma, consideradas construção de realidade, levando em conta, a atuação dos seres humanos para conceber as mesmas e também, as novas tecnologias digitais. Questiona como a noção de índice se configura atualmente e pode estar relacionada à construção de perfis e identidades no ciberespaço.
