Resumo: Accumulation and redistribution of N in the plant is an important factor for yield and grain quality. The identification of genotypes with high potential for nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) is of extreme importance in breeding programs. The aim of this study was to characterize Brazilian Twelve genotypes of wheat, recently made available for cultivation as the NUE. The wheat cultivars were submitted to four doses of nitrogen (0, 80, 160 and 240 kg N ha-1) in a controlled environment using randomized complete block design with three replications. The amount of nitrogen (N) at anthesis (TNA) was positively correlated with the efficiency of absorption of N (NUpE) and grain yield. The NUpE showed low association with NUE compared to the efficiency of N utilization (NUtE). The cultivars Mirante, Tbio Itaipu and BRS Parrudo showed the greater NUE on the average of four doses tested. The agronomic efficiency of applied N was higher for cultivars Fcep Cristalino and Tbio Itaipu.
