The soils of the Third Plateau of Parana, especially in the southwestern region, are characterized by the high content of clay and iron oxides due to the strong influence of the source material (Basalto). This region has strong social and economic importance, since it is based on family farming, responsible for about 70% of the country's food production. Considering the high pressure on the productive system of the region and the need to guarantee the agricultural sustainability of the system, this work proposes to use a Geographic Information System (GIS) and Digital Elevation Models (MDE) available free on the Internet to characterize the landscape and to study the spatial variability of soil chemical parameters of a rural property in the municipality of Vitorino-PR, in order to contribute to the understanding of the influence of management and altitude on soil chemical characteristics. Slope and hypsometric maps were generated from Topodata image processing in the Quatum Gis software. Soil samples were collected in areas under different management and topography (forest, pasture, crop and floodplain) for chemical analysis. The results were interpolated by the inverse distance weighting method (IDW). It was observed a high homogeneity in the chemical parameters of the property that can be related to the material of origin (Basalto) that is the same throughout the property and which gives rise to a soil with high clay content and, consequently, high buffering power. |
