Resumo: One of the strategies to improve the performance of mechanized harvesting is the use of pre-harvest desiccant herbicides. This management practice arises in cases where it at the moment of harvesting of the culture the bean, it is observed the presence of a very great unevenness with regard to the maturation of pods. Therefore, this work was developed with the objective of studying the ideal moment of desiccation and how different active principles influence the yield and physical and physiological quality of black bean seeds, BRS Esteio cultivar. The experiment was conducted in the field, in an area in the Southwest of Paraná micro region, more precisely in the city of Pato Branco, in the 2018/19 harvest. Seeding was carried out on November 7, 2018 and the last harvest on February 19, 2019. The experimental design was a randomized block design (DBA) with four replications. Each bloc was composed of 16 plots, which were combinations of the herbicides with the epoch of application. The application of the desiccant herbicides was performed when the culture presented 60%, 70%, 80% and 90% of the pods in the stage of field maturation. The active principles and doses used were: diquat (400 g ai / ha or 2 L of Reglone (Marca registrada) / ha), glufosinate – ammonium salt (400 g ai / ha or 2 L Finale (Marca registrada) / ha + vegetable oil or mineral as described in the product recommendation), saflufenacil (49 g ai / ha or 70 g Heat (Marca registrada) / ha) and potassium glyphosate (1.240 g ai / ha or 2 L Zapp QI 620 (Marca registrada) / ha). The post-harvest evaluations were as follows: seed moisture content, thousand seed weight, productivity, germination test, accelerated aging test, determination of green matter and dry matter of seedlings and length of shoot and root of seedlings. It was concluded that for the BRS Esteio cultivar, the first desiccation crop resulted in better yield and better physiological quality of the seeds. In addition, the herbicide glufosinate – ammonium salt resulted in more vigorous seedlings compared to potassium glyphosate. And under the yield variable the herbicides had no significant influence, although glufosinate - ammonium salt resulted in higher PMS, while saflufenacil and diquat had the lowest PMS values.
