Resumo: This research seeks to identify what are the concepts of the terms sustainability, reforestation wood and glued laminated timber, also called gluam, and how the academic society has dealt with these issues. For efficient work, we investigated a branch company located in Viamão - RS, in order to share manufacturing process adopted by it. The glued laminated timber is a construction material used for structural purposes, developed more than a century ago in Europe. In Brazil the technique of rolling and paste woods in order to transform them in one piece is a little-known technique, introduced by European immigrants in the 40s. The instruments used to conduct this were a theoretical foundation based on authors like Calil Neto and Szücs, who are experts in glulam in Brazil, a field visit in the company Esmara Estruturas de Madeira Ltda. and interview with the responsible engineer and business owner . The search results are presented in the text with discussions and correlations with major American standards that dealing the subject. This research provided an opportunity for better learning on the subject, bringing a contribution to the professionals to reassess and redefine their concepts.
