Resumo: As one of the main elements related to the socioeconomic development of a region, roadways must support the minimum requirements of traffic safety, comfort and operational economy. As soon as it is noticed that the roadway is no longer able to support those requirements, an intervention is needed in order to recover its ideal functional and structural attributes. The choice of studying the BR-163 segment between São Miguel do Oeste and Dionísio Cerqueira (SC) is justifiable due to innumerous pavement defects and failures that are significantly interfering with the roadway users. Also, the high number of traffic accidents. In order to suggest a serviceability improvement of the segment in study, this research is intended to evaluate the pavement’s surface layer the IGG method; the pavement’s structural condition with FWD equipment and the traffic volume. Empirical equations will result in a reinforcement thickness to be built.
