Resumo: |
Bilingual education has a recent expansion in Brazil and this is already reflected in the city of Pato Branco, and it is leading teachers to rethink the English teaching. In this sense, this final course work addresses to present a interpretative qualitative research that investigated the implementation of Portuguese-English bilingual education in Elementary School I in a private school in Pato Branco, as well as the teacher's perceptions who teaches English as an additional language. To achieve this goal, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with an English teacher and the two school coordinators. The answers of the interviews were audio-recorded and transcribed for later analysis. Data were analyzed for their thematic content revealing the specific characteristics of this bilingual teaching context. From the analysis, we realize that the school pedagogical team has been creating strategies for the implementation of bilingual education which may allow the students’ development as bilingual subjects. These results aim to provide a new perspective in relation to the points that contribute and challenge the teacher's pedagogical performance in bilingual education, and thus contribute to the English teaching-learning process in this specific context. |
