Resumo: The present task has the aim to show the perspectives of the writer Carolina Maria de Jesus while slum resident, when she wrote Quarto de despejo (1960), exploiting the richness of a work which brings a view of the extreme poverty by someone who still lives it. We will analyze and contextualize Carolina’s writings with the historical period, exploiting the Brazilian political society, social and economic aspects in the 1950’s, as presented by history and how it was really felt by the needy people, residents of the periphery. It was adopted as working methodology the bibliographic research of works by the same author also other authors such as Meihy and Levine, as well as academic work. By it, intends to reach an analytic sight to Diary, evidencing the importance of the study of this genre in the reconstruction of history, mainly what will be shown in this work, about the contradictions between the official history, which shows us only a progress and prosperity image, in special in the slum, which was for many times silenced and forgotten. By this way it is intended to demonstrate the literary genre importance, Diary, for a better understanding and analysis of how history is presented to us, and the population's view of how it really occurs, as it is evident, in the view of the author, in its surroundings it was not seen all the prosperity that the official history shows, quite the contrary, only after the exposition of how people were treated precariously that had an authorities concern for the poor people.
